WTFWIT: Beautiful Sentinels: PHILIA
So,
I've mentioned 'Beautiful Sentinels: PHILIA' a couple of times on my FB page, but I've said nothing on what it's about.
The short version is that it's a mix of Japanese idols, Magical Girls, and Cthulhu.
So here's What the Fuck I Was Thinking:
I was sitting and binge watching Smile Pretty Cure (I like the show, don't judge me), and it got me to thinking about how the monsters on the more popular Magical Girl shows are more goofy than threatening.
I'm sure that a good deal of other Magical Girl shows have scarier monsters, but that's neither here nor there.
I also noticed that the monsters in Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! (again, don't judge me) are also way too goofy looking, although it's clear that their appearance was intentional, given that the show parodies the genre.
Anyways, it got me to wondering how a group of Magical Girls would do if faced off against Cthulhu. That sent my mind down the rabbit hole, and once that happens, there's no getting out. I decided that I was going to make a full-fledged Magical Girl Horror Story. I started coming up with the characters, then decided that they're an idol group called PHILIA (I like idol music... stop judging me) that encounter a talking guinea pig that bestows wondrous powers upon them to fight horrors from another dimension.
I was asked "Why a guinea pig?" I answered "Why NOT a guinea pig?"
Moving right along, a deluge of ideas concerning the details about the characters, supporting cast, the story outline... so much fucking stuff. I thought there would be no stopping it. FUN FACT: I got the title for the book from "The Sentinel" by Judas Priest and "Philia" by Versailles.
The first problem was starting the story itself. Nothing was coming to me.
The second problem was that "Bike Cop" took off, and then I started "Charlotte & Me," and then THAT started getting positive feedback.
The epiphany happened when I was thinking about how "Charlotte" was much easier since I am more familiar with the layout of Massachusetts, and the fact that Arkham doesn't actually exist. My problem with 'PHILIA' was a matter of geography. I have no familiarity with Japan at all, so I decided to create an imaginary prefecture called Setsuri with its own towns.
That was what I needed to birth this beast.
Right now, the prologue and the first chapter are being edited. I won't be posting the chapters themselves, simply because this is something I'll be selling. Sorry folks - no freebies here.
I'm going to try to get another chapter done for "Charlotte" while I'm waiting for what I have of PHILIA to pass the final edit.
Keep the peepers peeled here for more info! Thanks folks!
